, dan. the death toll continues to climb with at least 1 american and 11 other hostages reported to have been killed. the algerian military has twice stormed the natural gas facility. but authorities say the situation this morning, is still not resolved. and a number of western workers, including americans, apparently remain hostages. the state department has now confirmed that 58-year-old fred buttaccio of suburban houston, was killed at some point during the attack and subsequent rescue effort. but another american, mark cobb of corpus christi, texas, is now confirmed as safe. cobb was the senior manager at the bp facility algeria. and sent a message saying, i'm alive. the al qaeda-linked group claims the attack on the facility in the african desert, had been planned for some two months. in both assault, the algerian army, using tanks and helicopters, found the terrorists were heavily armed and prepared to fight to the death. one official described the aftermath as carnage. hostages who escaped or were freed, said the terrorists only wanted westerners or americans, and were brutal in t
weapons ban through. >> let's head to washington and the white house. dan lothian is there, so dan, is the nra right? >> well, you know, i'm not going to make any predictions about what congress may or may not do. as we have learned over the last few years, what i can say is that assault weapons ban does appear to be facing an uphill effort up on capitol hill and i think what's interesting is that the president, right after the mass shooting in connecticut came out and talked about, you know, putting his support behind efforts to reinstate the assault weapons ban and this had been the position of the white house since then but what was interesting last week when the vice president was rolling out what he said what are the top tier recommendations that he had been getting of meeting with several groups he did not mention that at all so there were questions about whether the white house itself may have felt that it was losing steam and there was not support for this on capitol hill. but shortly thereafter, a spokesman for the white house saying the president and the vice president ar
" legal analyst, dan abrams. nev, let me begin with you. maybe this is a generational thing. i look at the facts. a relationship supposedly going on for several months. they never meet. i say, there's no way this is true. but you believe him. >> yeah. i stand by the guy. my heart goes out to him. i feel like he's dealing with more emotionally than anyone's giving him credit for. he had his heart broken. his girlfriend died. he's grieving, a girl whether she existed or not, those are real feelings. >> your brother says he was the victim of a hoax like this. what have been you able to discover in this story? >> my brother's been pretty deep in it with his co-host, max joseph. and they uncovered a few other people that were duped by the fake lennay character. sort of like my brother's story, it's bigger than just manti. there were a lot of other people she was corresponding with, before and maybe even during her relationship. >> you went and looked at the interviews, how do you think it was able to go on so long without being uncovered? >> when you want something bad enough, in his cas
condition with cancer suddenly improved when he started taking human growth hormone. this from dan, he raised over $500 million for cancer research. doesn't that count for anything? and from mark, he can't change the paths, but he can go forward and accomplish great things. just ask bill clinton. i have low testosterone. there, i said it. how did i know? well, i didn't really. see, i figured low testosterone would decrease my sex drive... but when i started losing energy and became moody... that's when i had an honest conversation with my doctor. we discussed all the symptoms... then he gave me some blood tests. showed it was low t. that's it. it was a number -- not just me. [ male announcer ] today, men with low t have androgel 1.62% (testosterone gel). the #1 prescribed topical testosterone replacement therapy, increases testosterone when used daily. women and children should avoid contact with application sites. discontinue androgel and call your doctor if you see unexpected signs of early puberty in a child, or signs in a woman, which may include changes in body hair or a large inc
themselves. host: next we will hear from a democratic caller, dan. if the debt ceiling negotiable? caller: it should not be. but if the republicans want to force negotiations, the president ought to prioritize by not sending any money to the republican-controlled states in the south. if he has the priorities. my suggestion for future show might be to get a list of all the donor states and all the receivers states. these people calling from the red states that gets $1.70 for every dollar they get and always screaming about cuts, if you should ask them if they are willing to deduct 5% from what they send to the federal government and live on that. thank you. host: chris in chicago, republican, your thoughts? caller: i don't think the debt ceiling should be negotiable, simply because the president won the election, congress also won reelection. it should not be. it's under a false premise. if the debt ceiling is not raised, that we would go into default. that's not true unless tim geithner air this id will actually follow the law and pay the service on the debt and collect more money in taxe
themes and we just learned this from dan lothian who covers the white house. this is sort of the fact that the president is confronting the reality of a divided washington that he'll be acknowledging that there are some divisions but he'll talk about how there's responsibility to work on issues where there are common ground and, of course, this is considered certainly a speech that is somewhat hard to deliver not only because historically second inaugurals are not always very memorable but also because it's situated in a very weird place temp porely for president obama. we've just had the fiscal cliff battle. there's an upcoming one with the debt ceiling. ep has to acknowledge this not so pretty reality in the washington as he gives a speech that's supposed to be inspirational. >> the reality is the same congress he was working with on friday will be the same congress he's working with come tuesday despite the speech. we'll watch closely to see more details coming up. thank you so much. we'll watch more of this ahead. >> we always know security is tight in washington, but for the inau
reminded of dan rather, the documents were false, but accurate. this was exactly what, if you'll recall, paul ryan in his vice-presidential speech and in other places pointed out that barack obama gave a speech in janesville, wisconsin gm plant and said we're going to keep this open for a hundred years with the auto bailout and they closed it started making those cars in china. i'd like to also point out that china, by the way, the media fact checkers found that to be a lie, too, they sided with obama on that and romney-ryan was correct on that as well. >> steve: sure. >> i'd like to point out that 55% of gm's increased production in china by 55% since the bailout and make seven out of ten cars outside the united states. so it's a good thing we did this 83 billion dollar auto bailout for american jobs. >> steve: sure, but you know, a big part of the president's face are auto union workers, they hear, hey, they're going to ship a bunch of car manufacturing jobs out to china, oh, wait a minute, i don't like that idea. so you've got a fact checking organization that came in and said that's
